Birthdays are an interesting phenomenon. At least three times this birthday I heard the phrase at work, "It's your birthday?....why didn't you tell me?" The fine line between one's own birthday recognition and suppression must be walked each year. I tend to gravitate toward avoidance of the public recognition, as remorse from co-workers for not 'remembering' a birthday they didn't previously know about doesn't seem warranted; how is it that I then feel guilty for not publishing to the world that "Guess whaaaaaat?.....next week is my biiiiiirthday..."
My celebration of a birthday is not a huge deal, a la Jerry Seinfeld, "...all you did was not die for an another year." I will admit that it is nice to feel special for a day.
Mel gave me some professional recording equipment which I'm very excited about. Some day I'll be able to sing like that girl on the box and even look pretty doing it, too.
